Busy Week
This past week has been a very busy one for Tammy and I. First off we had some rock climbing photos taken for an upcoming Rock and Ice magazine article. Photographer Nathan Smith came up from Salt Lake City and we took him around to the local climbing areas and posed on the rock. Check out some of his amazing photography at www.pullphotography.com.
On Wednesday we hosted the monthly Industry Tasting, where many of the local wine makers get together and hold a blind tasting of a specific varietal. This month we tasted Pinot Gris/Grigio from all over the world. Tied for first was Davis Creek Cellar’s 2007 and Pontin Del Roza’s 2006 (a Washington winery) with Sawtooth’s 2006 in a close 3rd. It’s interesting that both Washington and Idaho fruit beat out the famous Oregon Pinot Gris fruit also it’s good to see that Idaho wine makers consistently place in the top tier in these blind tastings, regardless of the varietal. Good job Gina and Brad! We have toyed with the idea of making a Pinot Gris and after seeing how well the northwest PG fairs against the rest of the world we might take a closer look. Here is a photo of Gina Davis with her prized (and yet to be labeled) 2007 Pinot Gris:
The vineyard is beginning to come around with this hot weather. Although the vines are about 2 weeks behind this year, the warmth (or should I say unbearable heat) is only helping them get back on track. It seems like the vines are growing so fast you can watch them. Here are a few photos of a showcase vine we have planted on the wedding grounds: (click of the photos for a very detailed view)
Finally, I am happy to be a new uncle as of May 17th! Anthony ,my brother, and Myra had a baby boy named Hunter Michael McClure. Congrats to both, I guess it’s time to put away a pipe of Indian Creek Port!
