Budbreak!

Budbreak is here at Indian Creek Winery’s Stowe Vineyard. Below are a few photos of what will become the 2009 vintage. The first two photos are of the Chardonnay vines and the last photo is of a concord vine we have planted in the lawn. Over the next few weeks these tiny green leaves will grow into shoots that will later create grape clusters.

Our average budbreak date at Stowe Vineyard is the 27th of April so this year is spot on with the usual. Although we have had budbreak as early as April 11th and as late as May 6th (last year). A frost at this point would be very detrimental to the vines but the weather looks good for the next couple weeks so hopefully we are in the clear.
