4:30am, 25F
It’s 4:30 a.m. and the thermometer outside reads 26 degrees F. I just got back from outside refilling the gas tank on our vineyard fan and making sure our smudge piles were still burning. I suppose this is probably the last day of the growing season but we will have to wait and see how the vines react to this freeze over the next few days. It does not look good though as most all the vines have a fairly thick layer of ice on the leaves and the clusters. Most everything of ours is ripe and is just about ready for harvest besides the little bit of Cabernet Sauvignon we have. That will likely be left on the vine this year. Other than that I don’t foresee this being a devastating loss but a loss none the less. Stay tuned to see how we and other vineyards faired over the night.
